Wilson's School selects through the Sutton SET. Stage 1 is two multiple-choice papers - English (four timed sections) and Maths (about 50 questions) - with five options each. The papers
Stage 1: two 45-50 minute MC papers (English, Maths). Stage 2: written English + written Maths.
Stage 1 - English - 50 minutes
- Spelling: choose the correct spelling from five plausible misspellings
- Vocabulary & grammar: word meaning, sentence completion, SPaG
- Comprehension: fiction, non-fiction and poetry - retrieval, inference, author's purpose; select-one / select-two / select-all formats
Stage 1 - Mathematics - 45 minutes
- Maths: KS2+ with real reasoning - number, FDP, ratio, algebra, geometry, statistics; multi-step worded; roughly 55 seconds a question
Stage 2 - Written English - 60 minutes
- Extended writing: narrative, descriptive, persuasive, discursive or functional (letter, speech, report) - no comprehension
Stage 2 - Written Maths - 45 minutes
- Maths (written): full working shown; algebra, geometry, number, statistics; method marks available
